SUPPORT LOCKED-OUT ACADIAN BUS DRIVERS

SOLIDARITY PICKET WEDNESDAY!
SUPPORT LOCKED-OUT ACADIAN BUS DRIVERS

Locked out in Fredericton

On Wednesday December 14, 2011, students, faculty, staff and friends from the STU and UNB campuses are invited to make the trek over to the new Acadian Bus Lines office (off the Hanwell Road) and PICKET in solidarity with the locked-out workers of Amalgamated Transit Union local 1229.  Shared rides will gather at noon and 1pm at the traffic circles in front of UNB’s Wu Centre and STU’s McCain Hall to shuttle pickets to and from the picket site.  You are asked to dress warmly and picket for about an hour—come with picket signs if you have them, and be sure to bring lots of good cheer, it is definitely much appreciated!!!
Ignoring workers’ goodwill efforts to come up with innovative ways of saving the company money and to bargain in good faith, Acadian Bus Lines has instead chosen to LOCK its bus drivers OUT in the cold just before Christmas. This has virtually shut down all inter-city bus services in the Maritimes… a situation that is damaging to the public, and especially students, as well as the drivers who DESERVE A FAIR CONTRACT FREELY BARGAINED AT THE NEGOTIATING TABLE. We at the STU/UNB campus condemn all such heavy-handed managerial actions.

Co-sponsored by the unionized staff, students and faculty of the STU Campus Labour Council
